Salone Kids on the Web
By Fatmata Dainkeh

Independent Observer
December 23, 2005

The Children who have been involved in a media project, with the Center for Media, Education and Technology (CMET) have compiled a series of radio programmes to be broadcast on various radio stations in the country. Speaking to this press, one of the trainers of the kids, Ethel Sillah, said some twenty-three children aged between 16-20 years were initially involved but that due to the resumption of normal school in September of 2005, fourteen kids remained with the programme.

“We have been training and working with these kids to help them produce their own programmes and the result has been remarkable,” Ethel said. She maintained that the children have developed great interest in broadcasting and that a new crop of journalists is in the making.

Several programmes ranging from health, sports, economy, human rights and good governance have been produced and are being aired on various radio stations in the country. It is expected that the programme will be on a web site designed purely for children.

According to journalist David Tam-Baryoh, Director of CMET, the project is now in its seventh month and a web page is being designed and that the general public will be thrilled when they begin to view and listen to kids on the Internet as well as the radio.
